If you are plan to travel to Kuala Lumpur on a trip, make sure to head over to Zoo Negara to see the adorable giant pandas, Xing Xing and Liang Liang.
The giant panda pair, on loan for ten years, symbolise the 40th anniversary of Malaysia - China diplomatic relations. They arrived in Malaysia last year, May 21, 2014.
Since coming to Malaysia, the pair have been such a hit with visitors who have come to see the pandas in their new home at the Giant Panda Conservation Centre in Zoo Negara.
Visitors wishing to see the giant pandas, should come early. Entry to the centre is from 9am to 5pm*.
Most of the time, the giant pandas can be seen eating bamboo in their enclosures. On average, the giant pandas eat as much as 9 to 14 kg of bamboo shoots a day. For those who have been wanting to see the giant pandas, it really is a worthwhile experience to travel and see them up close.
On a recent note, Liang Liang, gave birth on August 18, 2015 to a female baby panda cub. It has also set a record for being the first pair to naturally reproduce within in a short time in captivity.
Zoo Negara is located five kilometers from the city of Kuala Lumpur and was officially opened on November 14, 1963. Zoo Negara, situated on 110 acres of land is home to 5,137 animals from 476 species of mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians and fish.
It can be reached by Light rail transit (LRT) (Kelana Jaya line, alight at Wangsa Maju station) and take taxi to Zoo Negara. Alternatively, you can also take a bus (RapidKL bus U34) from the station to Zoo Negara. If you are at Titiwangsa LRT station, take RapidKL bus U23.
